Hazrat Shaykh Saadi writes in Gulisan that Hatim Tai had the reputation for most big-hearted person of his era. Someone asked him whether he has even seen anyone more generous than him?

Hatim replied that once he had arranged a banquet at his place and asked entire city to eat at his place. Hatim had to go travel for some work same day and saw a woodcutter who was dragging firewood for living.
