Hijrat to Jannat: Lessons from a Bedouin Who Came to the Prophet ﷺ

A Bedouin came to the Messenger of Allah ﷺ, embraced Islam, and said:

“O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, I will remain with you and migrate with you.”

The Prophet ﷺ entrusted one of his Companions with looking after him. Later, when the Muslims received spoils after a military expedition, the Prophet ﷺ allocated a share for the Bedouin as well.

The Bedouin had been tending the Muslims’ animals. When he returned in the evening, his allotted share was given to him. On seeing it, he asked:

“What is this?”

The Companions replied:

“The Messenger of Allah ﷺ has set aside this share from the spoils for you.”

He said:

“I did not follow the Messenger of Allah ﷺ for this. Rather, I followed you so that I might be struck here”—he pointed to his throat—“by an arrow, die, and enter Paradise.”

When the Prophet ﷺ heard this, he said:

“If you are sincere with Allah, Allah will fulfil your wish.”

Later, during fighting, the Messenger of Allah ﷺ passed through the battlefield and found the Bedouin martyred, with an arrow wound at the very place to which he had pointed. The Prophet ﷺ asked:

“Is this the same Bedouin?”

The Companions replied:

“Yes, O Messenger of Allah ﷺ.”

The Prophet ﷺ said:

“He was sincere with Allah, and Allah fulfilled it for him.”
