Hayy Ibn Yaqdhan is widely considered the first novel written in Arabic Language in 12th Century Moorish Spain. Andalucia (or Undalus in Arabic) became renowned for its culture and architecture and gave birth to many scientists, authors, physicians of its time. Deeply philosophical in its connotation, it is a story of  Hayy, a child who is left is the wild and raised by gazelle (a type of deer). As he grows up in the jungle on his own, he contemplates on his physical being, the cosmos, the questions of body and soul, the question of existence and his purpose in life.

 

He passes thought various phases of learning, each bringing its own question and a quest to find their answers.
