Badar Ali Khan Qawwal—also known as Badar Miandad Khan—was a celebrated Pakistani qawwali singer renowned for his powerful voice and soulful performances. Born in 1962 in Pakpattan into a distinguished family of qawwals, Badar Ali Khan was a cousin of legendary Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, which enriched his musical lineage and learning. He began his qawwali career in the mid-1970s, rapidly gaining fame for his unique style, which blended traditional Sufi poetry with energetic rhythmic improvisations.
Badar Ali Khan was widely recognized not just in Pakistan, but internationally, providing vocals and compositions for Indian and Pakistani films. His most famous qawwalis include “Jashan-e-Amad Rasool SAW, Allah hi Allah” and Dam Dam Hussain, Maula Hussain. He was admired for incorporating classical poetry from Sufi greats like Bulleh Shah and Mian Muhammad Baksh.
