Sawaal: Urdu Poem by Dr. Allama Iqbal

 

Ik muflis khud-daar kehta hai Khuda se

Main kar nahin sakta gilla dard e faqeeri

Lekin yeh bataa tere ijazat e farishay

Karte hain ataa mard e faro maya ko meri?

 

سوال

اک مفلس خوددار کہتا تھا خدا سے

ميں کر نہيں سکتاگلہ درد فقيری

ليکن يہ بتا تيری اجازت سے فرشتے

کرتے ہيں عطا مرد فرو مايہ کو ميری؟

 

English translation

A poor but honorable person says this to God

I cannot complain of my poverty due to self respect

But tell me one thing, that is it your permission

By which angels give fortune and favours to wretched and lowly people
