Ustad Bahauddin Khan Qawwal & Group sing Man Lago Yaar Faqiri by Kabir Sahib: Letter by Wazir Dayers

Dear Brother W,

Brace yourself for almost 40 minutes of vibrant and highly inspired qawwali by Ustad Bahauddin Khan Qawwal & Group! At the heart of this performance is a poem by Hazrat Kabir Sahib R.A. (1440-1518): Man Lago Yaar Faqiri Mein. There’s a lot of additional Sufi poetry, mainly in Urdu and Persian.

Here’s a translation of Hazrat Kabir’s poem:

“My heart/mind takes delight in poverty now
The bliss I derive from chanting God’s name cannot be found in wealth
Bad or good, accept every facet (of life), make your both ends meet in poverty
In the end, this body will meet the earth; what is there in being a haughty egotist?
Kabir says: “Listen, o devoted brother, you’ll find the Divine Lord by being patient”
