Musarrat Nazir: The Voice of Punjabi Wedding Folk Songs

Mussarat Nazir

Musarrat Nazir (Urdu: مسرت نذیر )‘s amazing and pure Punjabi voice often surprised her audiences when they look at her modern appearance. Musarrat Nazir was a graduate of prestigious Kinnaird College and one of the most sophisticated and elegant women and the most influential style icon of her tines. Despite three decades, her style and panache look modern and relevant today.

But her voice was where things get truly amazing. Her voice was in the same league as Noor Jehan and Reshma, naturally strong, pure and soulful.

Musarrat abandoned her singing career decades and migrated to Canada but her voice continued to inspire the third generation of singers. There is no mehndi event that takes places without singing the songs which she immortalized with her voice. Musarrat Nazir was honored with Pakistan’s ultimate prize or artists, the Pride of Performance Award from the President of Pakistan in 1989

Main Kamli Da Dhola, Raat Dhami Dhami
is a Seraiki track revived beautifully by Hadiqa Kiani recently. This track was a Musarrat Nazir original, which truly manifests what an exceptional artist Musarrat Nazir was.
